16 Year Old Boy In Chennai Died In A Road Accident

A 16-year old boy made a road accident at Chennai and he himself died in the accident. The rising death count of under-18 minors created a distressing condition among parents and public.

Chennai boy Rohit is a son of Venkatesan and Meena residing in Ayanapakkam. He is studying 11 th standard in Vellammal Matriculation Higher secondary school. Rohit and his friend were riding a bike in Anna Nagar West at high speed. Unexpectedly, they ran over a boy named Babu who was trying to cross the road and the two were thrown away from the bike. Unfortunately, the Thirumangalam boy Babu died in the accident spot after a severe head injury.

Rohit also got injured in head severely while the other boy was admitted to Kilpauk hospital following a hand fracture. Unluckily, Rohit died miserably in the hospital with no use of treatment. 

In these circumstances, the dead boy Rohit and his mother Meena were charged with over speed, killing by making accident cases under 6 parts of Section 180 of Motor Vehicles Act. Apart from losing their child, parents were subjected to appear in court as an accused. 

Already Police Department has warned about the under-18 offence of riding a vehicle, but still, the death of minors under-18 has been rising up these days. An official announcement was made by the Police after two students studying 12th standard died at the accident spot in the Ennore Express Highway after hit by a container lorry. 

Section 4 of Motor Vehicles Act,1988 does not allow students under the age of 18 to drive vehicles. Those who violate the rules will be fined for Rs. 1000 or three months jail term or both under section 180 of the Act.

Police also stated that legal action shall be taken against the parents if their children under 18 were found riding a vehicle. Parents, after noticing this accident news, are advised not to give bikes to minors below 18 years and also should ensure that their children are not operating any other two-wheelers.
