DMK and important opposition parties have assembled in Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on Sunday to discuss about the Cauvery issue protests. Following a session's discussion, it was decided to go on a full day bandh on April 5 all over Tamil Nadu to condemn the Central Government's inability for setting up Cauvery Management Board , said by Opposition Leader and DMK Chief Stalin.

Stalin also added that the shut-down would take place enormously. He also asked for support from other party leaders who have not participated in the meeting. Mainly, he seeked the support of traders, students, labours, farmers and common public to contribute in the April 5 shutdown.

Already, Tamil Nadu Vannigar Sangathinar Peraimappu President Vikrama Raja had announced strike on April 3. Stalin said that he had a tele-talk with him and informed about the exams for students on April 3 and April 4 and requested to postpone the bandh date to April 5 (Thursday) so that students also could involve in the strike. Vikrama Raja had promised to reconsider his request. Public are expecting an official announcement  from Tamil Nadu Vannigar Sangam regarding the change in strike date so that people could pre-plan their purchases before the bandh.

In these circumstances, responding to Stalin's request, Tamil Nadu Vannigar Sanga Peravai President Vellaiyan said that Vanniagar Sangam will not go on strike with political parties. As scheduled, bandh shall be held on April 3 (Tuesday) only. The strike is not only for Cauvery issue but also against the Central government's harmful projects like Sterlite, Neutrino and Koodankulam Nuclear Powerplant. Also he added that they would again conduct the strike on April 11 to protest against Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu.
