Chennai worst affected areas due to Flood 2015. Due to the cyclonic rainfall from November middle to the first week of December, Chennai and Cuddalore were badly affected. The lake and rivers were over flown and made the city submerge. One of the main reasons beyond this worst flood is engorgement of the various lakes and rivers regions in Chennai and other one is lack of proper drainage infrastructure maintenance of the city.
The areas near and around Chembarabakkam lake, Puzhal lake, Poondi lake, Adyar and Coovam rivers are mostly affected by floods. Anna Nagar, Vadapalani, Kodambakkam, Mylapore, Nugambakkam, Arcot road, West Mambalam, Royapettah, Saidapet, Triplicane, Valasaravakkam, Velacherry, Kotturpuram, Tambaram, Vilivakkam, Mudichur and all other areas in the heart of the city was affected by floods. In these areas water flooded around the residential areas and also got inside the houses. Many houses were partially or fully submerged inside the water.
The NDRF, Army and Air Force teams were deployed in rescue and relief operations. They have rescued nearly 20000 people who stranded in floods. Hundreds of volunteers and many social organizations were involved in relief operations. The rescue team received nearly thousand calls from the public mainly for the receiving relief help from them. They have deployed nearly 500 personnel in this operation.
The death toll had raised to 270 and lakhs of people left homeless. Many were still suffering with out the basic needs.
Banks including SBI, ICICI, HDFC came forward to ease penalty on late payment on EMI or credit card payments on November month. Some banks to sanction fresh loans and to take various measures like rescheduling of loans and grant new loans.
Kerala government extends their support by proving bleaching powder and medical gloves as per Tamilnadu government request. Earlier Kerala government had sent 1.5 lakh chappathis to Chennai. many volunteers, social organizations from Kerala joined in the relief works.
