College Students Supports Kathiramangalam: 10th Day of Protest
College students in Namakkal and Sirkazhi boycotted their classes in support of Kathiramangalam village who are protesting against ONGC.
The protest was going on for past 10 days. It has been severe after police arrested 10 of the protesters and lathi charge made against people. People claim ONGC had spoiled their drinking water and ground water level rapidly decreased in years. They also say the oil canal in the area is being threat for the agriculture and their livelihood.
Meantime more than thousand students in Tiruchengodu, Namakkal district staged huge protest at Kumaramangalam. They voiced against the methane project of the government in Neduvasal and Kathiramangalam. Pompoohar college students also showed their support by boycotting the classes. The students had banners written words that are bold and impressive.
The shops in Kuttalam at Nagapattanam district were closed and people claimed to release the people who were arrested in Kathiramangalam. More than 500 shops remained closed in Kuttalam. Meanwhile state political party leaders are gearing up to Kathiramangalam to participate in the protest.
To be noted, Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palanisamy in the said women and children are staging protest just for fashion and it has become trend for people. These words from CM had irritated people across the state. People say 'We are protesting to save our life not for fashion'
