Earthquake in North Eastern States India

Earthquake with the magnitude of 6.7 occurred in the northeastern part of India this morning at 4:30 am. With the depth of 17km below the ground and as its epic center is in the Tamenglong district in Manipur.

Six people died and at least 50 people were severely injured in the quake. North Eastern states like Assam, Manipur, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal were affected by the earthquake. Neighboring countries include Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar were jolted by the earthquake on this morning Monday.

Earth quake severely hit 30 km surrounding Imphal. Many houses and buildings in the area were collapsed. Within 60 seconds there is the massive jolt at many places including Gauhati. The people in their residents came out immediately after the quake, terrified and stayed in the road. Walls of many houses were broken in the small houses. People saw the furniture and books rolling from the shelves.

These northeastern parts of India were considered as one of the major risk place of earthquake in the world. This belt is under the risk of major earthquake.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his twitter page to tweet about the action he had taken in the incident. He had talked with the Assam and other states CM about the quake.

'Spoke to Rajnath ji, who is in Assam, on the situation arising due to the earthquake & asked him to oversee the situation. Had a telephone conversation with Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi on the earthquake in the state & the region.' tweeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
