Google Tribute to Sitar Pandit Ravi Shankar

Google paid tribute to Sitar specialist Pandit Ravi Shankar today on his 96th birthday by creating doodle of his Sitar. He is the sitar maestro Hindustani classical music.

Standing sitar doodle was created by the team in honoring legendary musician Ravi Shankar who passed away on December 11, 2012 at the age of 92. He is a famous sitar player in India and been most popular across the world in 1960s and 1970s. He had received India's highest honorary award Bharat Ratna. He was also honored with Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhusan for his great work for the music.

Google formed green creepers with standing sitar which attracts the audience more. It was viewed in several countries. The first doodle was created in 1998. Doodle team was established in 2009 and their first animated doodle on 2010 reached massive audience. In the same year on May they made first interactive doodle.

Harrison, who was the famous guitarist across the world heard about Shankar and want to learn sitar from him. He had stated Ravi Shankar as the 'God father of the Music'. His relationship with Harrison was one of the main causes of spearing Sitar to western countries and across the world.

Shankar had taught sitar to popular guitarist George Harrison. Their relationship is good and Shankar termed as the friendship, Guru-shisya relation as well as father-son relationship. Naturally Shankar became popular worldwide through the friendship of Harrison. It was said by Shankar himself in a statement.

Ravi Shankar spent his youth with his elder brother in performing stage dance. He gave up the dance for learning sitar from Allaudin Khan. He received 5 times Grammy Awards which was the highest honorary award for music. The 58th Grammy Award was held in 2016. He receives his first Grammy Award in 1967 and last life time achievement award in 2012.
