Gurez Sector Avalanche Death Toll Climbs 14
There is a terrible loss of Indian soldiers in Avalanche take took place in Gurez sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Nearly 14 Martyrs died in the disaster including 2 Tamils. Five army personnel hit by fresh avalanche that struck army camp in Kupwara today. They are conducting rescue operations there. Two Avalanches hit Gurez sector of Bandipora district near the line of control 2 days before. Several are feared missing still.
Avalanche warning was issued to Kashmir and Ladakh valley. High danger warning exists in Rajouri, Ramban, Riasi, Doda, Kishtwar and Kargil Districts. It disrupted the works of the border roads organizations that is busy clearing the roads.
At least 7 persons were rescued alive and bodies of 14 soldiers were rescued. The snowfall is heavy in the regions and highway had been closed due to this. Heavy snowfall in the area had disrupted the searching operations. It is reported that 4 members in a family died in Gurez sector in two different avalanches.
Tamil Nadu lost 2 sons in this disaster. In last year 2016 avalanche 4 brave Tamils lost their lives. Indian Armies were working in extreme condition where they loss their valuable life to the natural disasters.
B Ilavarasan (27) son of agricultural labourers Boonathan (57) and Amutha (48) died in the disaster and his body will be sent to his native place in Tamil Nadu.
