Remembering, Dhyan Chand on his 111th birthday today on August 29 who created a remarkable place in Indian sport history by winning three Olympics Gold medals. Today is the birth anniversary of the Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. His birthday was celebrated as National Sports Day.
He has been recorded as the world’s greatest hockey player of all time. He had earned 3 gold medals for India at 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics.
Dhyan Chand is known as 'The Wizard' had scored more than 400 goals in the International career. He had been captain of 1936 team. He had been top ranker in hockey during the era when India was in peak in hockey.
After sport became the eligible category for Bharat Ratna on 2011, the man who first deserves this highest civilian award is none other than Dhyan Chand. As per the several people in India Dhyan deserves this award before anyone else.
We know today how tough to win a medal in Olympics, but at 1930s this man had won 3 consecutive Gold medals for India that to when whole world is heating up with World War 2.
Former hockey players and Dhyan Chand's son Ashok Kumar demanded Bharat Ratna for this history creator. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about this sport legend in the radio during Mann Ka Baat on Sunday morning. Modi had said Major Dhyan is an example for the true sportsmanship and patriotism. He spoke about his brilliance and wished all sports person on National Sport Day.
