Police Arrested Chennai College Students Involved In Protest Supporting Neduvasal
Police done lathi charge and arrested Chennai College students involved in Neduvasal protest against the hydrocarbon project. As per the report police did not file case on the students they were kept in marriage hall and will be released at the evening.
Central Government signed to extract Hydrocarbon at 31 places in India and one of it is at Neduvasal. People from various part of state staged protest against this project in fear of dangerous involved in this project. Hydrocarbon will be extracted for 15 years by the private company. As per the sources when this project is implemented there will occur scarcity of underground water in places around 100 kms. Agriculture in the area will be completed destroyed and people livelihood in and around the place is threatened.
The police arrested students staged protest near Valluvar Kottam saying without permission it should not be done. Police says students did not accept their order.
Farmers, villagers and environmentalists show strong protest against hydrocarbon extraction project as it will damage the agriculture, land, pollute environment and ground water.
Government of India gave approval in 31 areas (44 fields) including 28 on-land and 16 off shore fields tested by ONGC and Oil India Ltd. They have issued contract to private companies.
