Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu are going in for a State Wide Bandh.

Tamil Nadu has become a land of protests in recent times regarding many issues like Sterlite plant unit extension, Cauvery Management Board, Periyar statue vandalization and many more. But Tamil Nadu and its political parties have erupted all at once for the Cauvery issue in the month of April.

Protests and fastings are been staged up in many parts of Tamil Nadu in a continuous shift for the past five days. The situation had became more worse after the Central Government failed to stand on the orders of Supreme court for constituting the Cauvery Management Board that which was considered as a long-term need of Tamil Cauvery delta people and later turned as a need of whole Tamil Nadu by considering a right over the interstate river that flows from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry.

The Supreme court had pronounced its verdict over the Cauvery issue by alerting 177. 25 TMc water for Tamil Nadu that decreased the previous water allotment by the Cauvery Tribunal. But the verdict had increased the water allotment of Karnataka up to 14.75 TMC from its previous allotment. The Supreme court also ordered the central government of India to constitute a scheme for implementing the court's order for the period of Six weeks. The court passed the verdict on February 16.

The Political parties of Tamil Nadu were planned for a statewide protest as in order to stage the opposition against the centre for not constituting the Cauvery Management Board or Cauvery Water regulatory committee or any scheme as mentioned by the court. Many parties including the state ruling ADMK have also staged a fasting protest on April 3 for condemning the central rule for not constituting the CMB. The state's opposition parties like DMK, Congress, PMK, VCK, CPI and CPM are stagging up protests, Rallies and Rail Blocking movement for the past few days in addition with the Ban Sterlite protest of Thoothukudi people.

Following the political parties of the Tamil Nadu the Agricultural Association, Traders Union and Transport unions of Tamil Nadu had called up a statewide bandh on April 5. The main opposition party of the state DMK's working president had also shouted his support to the statewide shut down of Traders and transport Unions.

Unions like CITU, AITUC, INTUC, ACCTU and many others have marked their support for the statewide Bandh. Recent sources had cleared that transportation facilities will be inactive on April 5 in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
