Will Noyyal River Get Cleaned

Noyyalai Nokki was launched last Saturday evening to initiate the restoration works of the river. This 160 km long river originated from Western Ghats of Vellingiri Hills and passes through Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Karur districts and join river Cauvery at Noyyal village.

Social Activists Anna Hazare and the popular actor Suriya were present at the launch function. Anna Hazare on the function said he want to see clean Noyyal River in 2 years. He also added about the importance of conserving water and its resources.

Lots of people gathered for the occasion. Actor Suriya on the event said the people gathering for the good cause shows confident and hope to clean various rivers across the state. He said for the benefit of future generation we should conserve water bodies and carrying out such projects is necessary.

They also pointed out the importance of water management and rain water harvesting. To this project volunteers, non-profit organizations in and around Coimbatore, Tirupur, Karur and Erode district will support to carry on the works. They have jointly given the petition to the high court and they are confident in restoring the river. They are waiting for the government order to carry out the process.

The details of the people and government encroachment on the river were attached with the petition. This will begin with survey and project estimation said he organization authorities. They also added the wastage water entering into the river will be prevented by installing sewage treatment plants.

High court accepted the petition by the people regarding the encroachment and urged the government to response within 4 weeks. Next hearing will be on June 9th of this year. Though there are oppositions from some people around Noyyal, all the signs shows the river will be cleaned soon.
