Indian Athletes in Rio Olympics
India to send about 90 athletes to the Olympics that will be held in Rio. This will be largest team ever to participate in Olympics. Olympics will begin on August 5th this year. Lok Sabha informed on Tuesday about the India participating in 2016 Olympics. It had announced 90 candidates participating in the event.
90 athletes had qualified for Olympics this year. Ministry of Home Affairs announced about this at Lok Sabha. 58 persons had qualified for individual events and 32 hockey players including men and women participate in this Olympics.
The participants are given special training in India and in aboard. Meanwhile 40 Indian athletes on Monday left for Poland for training to face the Olympics. They are participants of 400m, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay and Javelin throws. They set a camp at Spala in Poland where they will get trained. Olympic Preparation centre trains them in Spala where climatic condition suits for athletes. The place has the wonderful weather condition that suits for all types of sporting drills. It is one of the main reasons for India to select the training centre.
Indian sports ministry bears all expenses for the crew and staff members who are getting trained for next 2 months until Rio Olympics.
The Athletes federation of India thanked Sport ministry of India for extending their support. It also expressed its gratitude to Poland Ambassador in India.
