Indian Rower Dattu Bhokanal Qualified for Rio Olympics
Indian Rower Dattu Bhokanal qualified for Rio Olympics is great news for India. Qualifying into Olympics itself is a great achievement and rower academy is happy for that. It is a delightful day to India firstly wrestler Sandeep Tomar qualified for Olympics in 57 kg free style category. Now Dattu Bhokanal who is trained at Army Rowing Node in Pune is selected for Olympics.
After winning a silver medal in men's single at 2016 FISA Asian and Olympic Qualification Regatta at Chung-ju in South Korea this 25-years-old Dattu Bhokanla on Monday qualified for Rio games. He clocked 7 mins 07.49 seconds in 2km course and finished second.
Dattu Bhakanal earlier achievements are he won two gold medals in 2014 National Rowing Championships. He had won silver in men’s single sculls in the 16th Asian Rowing Championships in China last year.
His Dattu Bhakanla began rowing four years before and in a short span he had achieved international achievements. Rowing Federation of India said 'We are delighted about Dattu qualified for Rio Olympics by fininshing second in the Asian Olympic qualifying event in Korea. Sport of rowing is doing well in India, this is considered as the development of this sport.'
As per the source, from 2000 onwards, Indian rowers had been entering to Olympics. Bhokanal is the ninth rower to represent India in Olympics. He is born in Nashik on 1991 who took rowing in 2012. After his return from Korea, the federation discusses with his coach and provides him high altitude training in rowing.
Vikram Singh and Roopendra Singh on light weight double sculls India could not get qualified they finished fifth in the finals. In this game only top three will be qualified.
