NASA Found 10 New Earth Sized Planets

NASA had earlier discovered 219 new planet candidates using Kepler space telescope. Out of these, 10 planets of which are near Earth sized and are orbiting in their star’s habitable zone. As per the NASA’s report planets with roughly the same size and orbit as Earth.

Using 4 years of Kepler observations, the final planet candidate catalogue contains the best characterised data yet.

Kepler had also identified more than 4000 planet candidates and 2300 confirmed planets orbiting other stars. Future studies could reveal a vast range of planet and help enable the search for life.

The data also provided a new way to find whether a planet has rocky surface like earth or it is filled with gas like Neptune. Kepler found the planets are about 1.75 times the size of Earth. They are found in Cygnus constellation in our Milky Way Galaxy.
