In Saudi Arabia, at least 107 people dead due to crane collapse at Mecca Grand Mosque. Mecca Grand Mosque is the Muslim's holy place where construction work is carried out and it is getting ready for the annual hajj pilgrimage.
This event has occurred and raises fears as only few days more for the Muslim's annual hajj pilgrimage where millions of people will be crowded in the Grand Mosque. Mecca hajj pilgrimage is one of the holy events that every Muslim should visit this place at least once in their life time.
Civil Defense Authority of Saudi Arabia says strong wind and heavy rains might have caused this crane collapse.
The huge crane crashed occurred at 5.30pm when the people gathered for the 6:30pm prayer. People says to the reporter that the crane collapse around 5.30pm from the third floor of the Grand Mosque on the Friday prayer.
The report says 107 people were killed at least and 238 people were injured in the incident. The recovery team appeared immediately to the spot, ambulance came and the authorities closed the area.
The situation became worst when there is heavy rain and wind blow around 5:30 pm when worshipers gathered for the prayer. Saudi civil defence authority says there was heavy stormy at the 83kmph speed and also heavy rainfall that made the crane to collapse.
The weather presenter of Saudi says this is autumn period and thunder storms occur at Mecca is not a great surprise. Saudi Arabia government started expanding the area of Grand Mosque from last year. It planned to increase the area of the mosque by 400,000 sq meters that can gather 2.2 million people at a time.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi tweeted 'My thoughts & prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in the crane crash in Mecca. I wish the injured a quick recovery'.
The hajj pilgrimage in Mecca is about to start from September 21 where up to 3 million pilgrims visits during this event. The Grand Mosque is the world's largest mosque where people come from many countries throughout the world. In middle Kaaba, the black cube will be prayed by the Muslims by walking round it.
