Oil Leakage In Kathiramangalam: Protest Against ONGC AT Tanjore

For past one month villagers are staging protest against ONGC operations in Kathiramangalam, the village of Thanjavur district. They are regularly staging protest against ONGC and some farmers were arrested few weeks ago. They demand Oil and Natural Gas Corporation to stop operations at the village.

On July first week, about 350 residents in the village were taken to police custody. ONGC said they are undergoing repair and maintenance works and not any new operations. The residents allege they are trying to take methane and other gases from the unit.

Following it, today the people had complained that oil is being leaked from the pipline and mixing into the ground water. They seek action from the government immediately.

Due to ONGC oil pipeline in the village the people are suffering without safe and clean drinking water. There are also reported the villagers found smoke at the leaking area in the pipelines. There is a fear of fire exhaust in the leakage area. Villagers have protested on the road to take action for the leakage.
