Oscars for Two US settled Indians
We know the top stars who won the Oscars and the films that won the Oscar Awards. Most of us not cared about the technicians who worked hard. That too we Indian must applaud two Indian born technicians who won the Oscars for scientific and technical achievement.
They are Rahul C Thakkar and Cottalango Leon received the award on Feb 13 at the annual Scientific and Technical Awards held at Beverly Hills. Cottalango jointly with J Robert Ray and Sam Richards won the award for development of Sony Pictures Imageworks Itview.
Thakkar was awarded for the designing the DreamWorks Animation Media Review system.
The first Indian to win the Oscar award is Bhanu Athaiya for Best Costume Design in the year 1983 for the movie 'Gandhi'. Satyajit Ray had received honorary Award of Oscar on1992. After the long gap musician AR Rahman won two awards in 2009 for 'Slum dog Millionaire'. Best Sound Mixing Award was won by Resul Pookutty for the same movie.
Now these Indian origin men won the academy award for scientific and technical achievement which made Indians proud.
Cottalango Leon
He was born in Thoothukkudi of Tamil Nadu in 1971. He was brought up in Coimbatore. He did his schooling upto class 7 at government high school and later at Kadri Mills High school in Coimbatore. He completed his Bachelore of Engineering in Computer Science at PSG college of Technology. Leon had worked for 8 years on Itview technology as the chief contributor. He used to visit his native city once in two years.
Rahul C Thakkar
Thakkar spent his early life at Mumbai. He completed his graduation in Computer Science at University of Mumbai. His mother was a teacher and father worked as the actor, writer and voice over artist in the film industry. Thakkar said in an interview that he was excited about attending the award ceremony, he expected more Indians to feature in the Academy Awards winners' lists in the future. After receiving the award he said 'I would like to thank my wife Roopa and daughter Shruthi for their continued love and support and would like to dedicate this award to my parents. This award made me realize how blessed I am with so many friends and family from all over the world.'
