World Tuberculosis Day
TB kills more than one million people globally still now. Every year on March 24 is marked as the World Tuberculosis Day. It is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium. It affects the lungs and spread to other parts of the body.
In spite of medicines found to cure the disease it spreads quickly through air by the person affected by active tuberculosis by sneeze, cough or talk emitting bacterium in air. It is difficult to find the symptoms when the person is affected by latent tuberculosis and they do not spread the disease.
It is reported that nearly 10 million cases are found to have active tuberculosis and more than 10 percent of them faces death. Among these 95% of death occurs in developing nations. It general symptoms includes light fever for long time, continuous cough, weight loss, loss of appetite and tiredness.
The statistic report says that about one third of world population is affected by this disease. Humans have this disease from ancient time. Dr. Robert Koch discovered tuberculosis bacillus in the year 1882. He received Nobel Award in Physiology or Medicine for the 1905. BCG Vaccine was found by Albert Calmette and Camille Guerin in 1906 and it was first used on 1921 in France which was widely accepted.
Some great discoveries about medicines by scientists like Dr. Waksman on 1944 for treating TB. It saved lots of people till now. The medicine available should be used at least six months. There is no effective vaccine other this 90 years old vaccine.
Research is going on for the new vaccines for the disease. TB and HIV is the most dangerous disease leading in the world. TB easily infects people with less immune and sick with other disease. TB is the leading disease in South Africa. Poor nutrition, poverty is the main complications for TB to develop.
In India as per the report, TB kills more other than other infectious disease. On 2014, at least 2.2 million people were died due to TB. TB can be effectively cured by taking regular anti-TB drugs for 6 months under direct supervision. It is great challenge for the humans to eradicate TB from the world. It should at least prevent spreading to others. Person affected by TB should be aware of the disease seriousness and should take regular medications and should be cautious not spreading disease to others.
